What are heel Pain (plantar fasciitis)
Plantar fasciitis is a condition where the tissue connecting the heel to the front of the foot tightens or contracts, often due to sports injuries, tight calf muscles, high arches, increased physical activity, or being overweight. Excessive pronation can further stretch the plantar fascia, leading to pain.

Symptoms
The main symptom is severe to moderate heel pain, which can affect walking and disrupt sleep. It’s a common issue faced by many Australians.
Assessment
A thorough biomechanical and physical assessment is recommended to identify the cause and specific pain points. Issues like leg length differences can also contribute.
Treatment
Options include:
- Stretching exercises to relieve tension and reduce inflammation.
- Proper footwear for stability.
- Strapping (Low Dye) to reduce strain on the fascia.
- Foot mobilization to realign foot bones.
- Dry needling to stimulate healing.
- Shockwave therapy for a healing response.
- Orthotics to support and align the foot while addressing mechanical issues.
While some products like gel or rubber heel lifts are marketed for relief, they may not address the underlying cause. For assessment, email info@platinumsportspodiatry.com.au
